- Contract negotiations with management are set to begin just over a month from today. As our Negotiating Committee gears up to go to the table with management, a number of activities are taking place to help support their work.
- Our Negotiations Survey is underway, preparatory work has started on our AFA opening proposal to management, and our Mobilization Committee is looking for Mobilization Volunteers to back our Negotiating Committee.
- Looking for even more information about negotiations and what to expect? Our Contract 2022 website is your one-stop resource for everything you need to know!
Negotiations Survey
Our Negotiations Survey is currently open and accepting responses. The survey is one of the most important ways to ensure that everyone’s voice is heard and your thoughts, feedback, and experiences are included. Only by having every Flight Attendant participate in the survey can we ensure that our Negotiating Committee receives the best picture of what is important to us from contract negotiations.
If you haven’t already completed the survey, you can take it now by clicking here. If you have completed the survey, please encourage your friends and flying partners to do the same! As a reminder, the survey will close on Friday, August 19 at 12 PM Pacific time.
Opening Proposal
As part of the negotiating process, both AFA and management will prepare opening proposals that are exchanged during the first bargaining session. The proposals outline each group’s priorities and desired changes to the current collective bargaining agreement. These opening proposals are the point from which negotiations begin.
Our Negotiating Committee has been actively gathering information over the past several months to help prepare our AFA opening proposal to management. This process started with direct conversations had at the Negotiating Committee Listening Sessions held in May and will continue with the results of our Negotiations Survey. Feedback from our AFA Committees, information from previous contractual grievances and disputes, and other industry research and comparisons will also be used to help with preparatory work.
Before negotiations can begin, the Negotiating Committee’s opening proposal must be approved by our Master Executive Council (MEC). The MEC is currently scheduled to review the Negotiating Committee’s draft opening proposal at a Special MEC Meeting on Thursday, August 25. Once negotiations begin on September 13, the full text of the AFA opening proposal will be posted on our Contract 2022 website.
Mobilization Volunteers
The power that our Negotiating Committee has at the bargaining table is derived from the solidarity of our Flight Attendants. Achieving the best possible contract will take all of us standing together in support. Our Mobilization Committee works to provide this support through coordinated solidarity activity and promoting two-way communication.
Mobilization is more than just a committee—it’s a program of action and information that allows every Flight Attendant to play a positive role in building a strong voice in support of our Negotiating Committee. Mobilization establishes a structure to provide information about key issues and achieve a high level of participation in solidarity activities. The structure allows information to be shared quickly and effectively, primarily through one-on-one interactions driven by Mobilization Volunteers in each base.
Are you interested in getting involved as a Mobilization Volunteer and helping to support our Negotiating Committee and your fellow Flight Attendants? Want to learn more? You can find more information on the Mobilization Volunteer page of the Contract 2022 website.
