Our Negotiating Committee (NC) has spent the last several weeks analyzing the results of the TA2 Survey and developing a TA2 Proposal to present to the Master Executive Council (MEC). A Special MEC Meeting is scheduled next week for the NC to present the TA2 Proposal to the MEC for approval and/or amendment.
Once the TA2 Proposal has been approved by the MEC, the NC will spend time preparing it for presentation to the Company at the first mediation session, November 19-21. The second scheduled mediation session is December 17-19.
Meeting with the Mediator
The NC and MEC met with the AFA International Director of Collective Bargaining Joe Burns and the mediator assigned by the National Mediation Board (NMB) on Tuesday, October 8. The parties discussed mediation dates and expectations for the upcoming sessions. The conversation was extensive- we are working on a standalone communication to summarize what was discussed.
Can you tell us the main topics you are bringing to the table after the survey we did last month?
It’s great to get an email that says an update on TA2, but giving us dates of future meetings without any further details isn’t really an update.
A Special MEC Meeting is scheduled later this week for the NC to present the TA2 Proposal to the MEC for approval and/or amendment. We’ll publish the opening proposal after the first mediation session November 19-21.
Will the TA2 proposal, be presented to AFA membership prior to/ or after presenting to management at the November session?
In the past, the opening proposals in contract negotiations have typically been published by the Negotiating Committee on the AFA Alaska website. For example, the opening proposals from the start of current contract negotiations were published on the negotiations website here: https://contract2022.afaalaska.org/portfolio/opener/.
