- Our Master Executive Council (MEC) has decided to split the duties of the MEC Mobilization Committee Chairperson into two positions.
- Current MEC Mobilization Committee Chairperson Justin Wetherell will move into a new MEC Negotiations Strategic Communications Representative position.
- Council 15 (SAN) Mobilization Committee Chairperson Samantha Wolff will take on the MEC Mobilization Committee Chairperson position.
As we approach the mediation phase of our contract negotiations and expand our mobilization activities, we have made changes to the roles of some AFA Representatives who support our Negotiating and Mobilization Committees. When negotiations began last year, our MEC Mobilization Committee Chairperson was responsible for coordinating mobilization efforts while performing several other duties to support our Negotiating Committee. As time progressed, these additional duties grew in scope and complexity, and our MEC has now decided to split the responsibilities into separate positions.
MEC Negotiations Strategic Communications Representative Justin Wetherell
Current MEC Mobilization Committee Chairperson Justin Wetherell will be shifting into a new MEC Negotiations Strategic Communications Representative position. In their new role, Justin will remain the official notetaker for the Negotiating Committee, ensuring that all discussions at the bargaining table are accurately recorded. Additionally, they will continue to lead the development of communications, information, resources, and social media content related to negotiations to keep Flight Attendants informed and engaged.
About Justin

Justin Wetherell started as a Flight Attendant in 2014 at Horizon Air and joined Alaska Airlines in 2015. Justin previously attended college at Willamette University in Salem, OR, after growing up in Anchorage, AK. While at Alaska Airlines, Justin has held several AFA positions – MEC Inflight Training Committee Member, Local Scheduling Committee Chairperson, Local Communications Committee Chairperson, Human Rights Committee Member, Uniform Committee Member, and Reserve Committee Member.
Justin has a passion for union work and advocating for our members – they’ve been involved in several projects over the past few years, including crew systems training and contract roadshows. Justin also supports our members by conducting recurrent and initial training as an Inflight Instructor. Justin hopes their dedication, passion, and knowledge will continue to be an asset to our members during negotiations.
MEC Mobilization Committee Chairperson Samantha Wolff
Moving forward, Samantha Wolff will take on the MEC Mobilization Committee Chairperson role. She currently serves as the Council 15 (SAN) Mobilization Committee Chairperson. In her new position, she will lead the Committee’s efforts to engage Flight Attendants in the negotiation process across all six bases. Her responsibilities include coordinating solidarity activities and facilitating two-way communication between Flight Attendants and the Negotiating Committee.
About Samantha

Samantha began her flying career with Virgin America in 2011 and now flies for Alaska Airlines. Prior to her inflight career, she attained a bachelor’s degree in fine art and worked as a legal assistant in a law firm in San Francisco.
In 2022, she was appointed as the SAN base Mobilization Committee Chairperson and took on the role of Grievance Committee Member for the base as well. Her passion for her profession, as well as her objective to unify the Flight Attendant group at Alaska Airlines, has fueled her acceptance of the MEC Mobilization Committee Chairperson position.
She lives in San Diego with her husband, an Alaska captain and long-standing union volunteer, and their 3 rescue cats. She has two inspiring step-sons, one in college for music composition and theory and one in the National Guard.
Keep fighting for us, we are all tired of this long arduous process. I stand with the MEC’s decisions. Good job on having one representative focus on different positions helping us get a contract we all deserve. Thank you all for your devoted efforts.
