What is the “We Care Pass” or “Stuff Happens Pass”?

September 21, 2022 by Negotiating Committee

Q: What is the “We Care Pass” or “Stuff Happens Pass”?

The “Stuff Happens Pass” (SHP) is a component of the Virgin America (VX) Inflight Work Rules. The intended use of the SHP was for rare, unforeseen emergencies when an Inflight Teammate (ITM) experienced difficulty reporting to work. ITM’s were able to use the SHP once per 12 month period without accumulating attendance points – although certain restrictions applied.

The Negotiating Committee lifted the SHP concept and rebranded it as the “We Care Pass” in our proposal.

Do Base commuting issues count for this circumstance as well?

    • Jeffrey Peterson (MEC President/Negotiating Committee Chairperson) says

Thank you for the question, Sue Ellen.

The parties have not yet discussed this specific proposal regarding the We Care Pass in detail and how it might interact with the Commuter Policy under §28.G. That being said, covered air and ground commuting failures are protected from receiving points in the current contract — and there are no blackout dates like there were under the L-VX “Stuff” Happens Pass — so theoretically you shouldn’t have to use a We Care Pass for commuting issues unless the specific circumstances were not covered by the language.

I may be misunderstanding your question, so let me know if I missed anything.
