Q: What was the Company’s attitude during negotiations – were they professional and motivated?
Yes, to a point. During the aggressive bargaining schedule, they were motivated to meet frequently. At that point they mostly wanted a glorified extension – minimal changes to provisions with a pay raise. That wasn’t going to work for us, and eventually things fell apart.
Were they dragging their feet? At times, yes. Negotiation is a complex process. The Company probably has their own thoughts on how quick to turn certain provisions around. Regardless of motivation, it’s not a fast process.
They were motivated for the deal they wanted, not for the deal we wanted or needed. There was also a lot of inexperience on their side, but they put in a good effort. When we needed info, we got it. When we needed subject matter experts, they brought them in. We did have some issues with the first person doing their costing, which was addressed.
Alaska management in general treats us pretty ok at the table, especially compared to some other airlines. They were professional and cordial, even when we disagreed, which happened quite frequently.
