Q: Can you explain the VX Red Circle LOA?
At Virgin America, when an employee transferred workgroups, they retained their original company hire date for pay rates.
At AS, we use Flight Attendant occupational seniority for pay rates.
During the merger this created an unequal application for pay rates. During the AS/VX JCBA, we wanted to ensure that the small group of VX Flight Attendants didn’t suffer a loss of pay – so we froze their pay year until their Flight Attendant occupational seniority caught up. The majority are now at the correct step on the pay scale for their Flight Attendant seniority – the last few will reach the correct step and have their pay step “unfrozen” in October, meaning the LOA will no longer be in effect and therefore not needed.
