This week, our Negotiating Committee and Negotiations Strategic Communications Representative met with management for Negotiation Session 22. Because this was an addition to our existing schedule, the mediator assigned by the National Mediation Board (NMB) was not present. *Our Negotiating Committee is supported during this process by AFA International Collective Bargaining and Legal departments.
Next week, we take our fight to Washington, D.C.!
Our Negotiating Committee will fly to Washington, D.C. for our 5th mediation session, June 17-20. We will meet internally in the AFA-CWA office on Monday. Mediation with management will be held at the National Mediation Board (NMB) headquarters. Alaska Airlines’ Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Constance von Muehlen is expected to join management’s bargaining team at the session.
Typically, when negotiations get to final stages, the NMB will want to meet with the parties before progressing to any next steps under the Railway Labor Act (RLA). Convening mediation in D.C. continues the process toward a tentative agreement Flight Attendants can ratify. We’re moving forward to get an agreement that Flight Attendants want and need.
We said, “We Won’t Wait,” and we mean it!
During the negotiation session this week, management presented a response to our latest comprehensive proposal. We also discussed section 8.Q: Contactability and 10.R-S: Reassignments and Pre-Cancellations.

We will accept no more stalling on the security of improved contracts. We have by far earned updated benefits, flexibility, schedule integrity, pay rates and outright respect.
Today, we show that we are more united than ever! We’re making our voices undeniable with our collective message to airline management: “Get this done NOW or face the consequences!”
