This week, thousands of Flight Attendants from across the industry showed up in full force to make history. We stood in complete solidarity, leaving no room for doubt, and demanded the contracts we’ve rightfully earned. Our strong and unified voice sent a powerful message to management industrywide that we are done being undervalued and underappreciated. We won’t tolerate their stall tactics and disrespect any longer. We stand firm and will do whatever it takes to get a contract with the pay and work rule improvements we deserve. Management can no longer ignore our demands or play games with our livelihoods. We’ve made it clear that we won’t back down–our voices will be heard and our contracts secured.
We are grateful for the unwavering support and solidarity shown by Flight Attendants, pilots, labor groups, family, friends, community members, State and Local Labor Federations, union members from different industries, and public officials who joined us on the picket lines this week. Our Negotiating Committee and Master Executive Council (MEC) stand firm in our commitment to fight for fair and just treatment for all workers, and we will continue to demand the respect and dignity we deserve.
Together, we are an unstoppable force that will not rest until we receive what we rightfully deserve. Our unwavering determination has already shown management that we are not to be underestimated. We will continue to fight until we secure a contract that truly reflects our value, and we will not settle for anything less.
Strike Authorization Vote
Our fight for an industry-leading agreement has reached a major milestone with the announcement of our strike vote results. A resounding 99.48% of Flight Attendants voted in favor of authorizing a strike, which empowers AFA leadership to call a strike if management fails to agree to significant improvements. With over 93% of eligible Flight Attendants participating in the vote, the results demonstrate our unity and strength.
With the full support of our Flight Attendants behind them, our Negotiating Committee will now return to the bargaining table armed with a clear and assertive message that we are tired of management’s stalling and excuses. It is now up to management to come to the table with the necessary improvements to reach an agreement and deliver the contract we have rightfully earned.
Now that Members have authorized a strike, we can request a release from the National Mediation Board, leading to a 30-day “cooling off” period and strike deadline. Our trademarked strike strategy, known as CHAOS™ or Create Havoc Around Our System™, would then be at our disposal. With CHAOS™, a strike could occur without notice to management or passengers and could affect the entire system or a single flight.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote and stand in resounding solidarity in our fight for an industry-leading contract.
