As our Red Hot Summer continues, we’re putting pressure on management to return to the negotiating table with a deal recognizing our contributions to Alaska Airlines’ success. Our next activity will do just that! Starting next week, our Mobilization Committee will launch a series of pop-up picketing events!
Unlike our scheduled Day of Solidarity event in August, pop-up pickets are designed to surprise management. If a pop-up picket is going to take place in your base, it will be announced with little notice and communicated directly by your Local Council. To ensure you’re in the loop about any upcoming events, follow your Local Council’s social media and email newsletters.
Questions?
If you have any questions about pop-up pickets or other upcoming solidarity activities, please reach out to your LEC Officers or Local Mobilization Committee Chairperson.
Sarah Gaul says
Hi, I have about 100 dime pins made right now and as soon as I get more dimes I have backs for 300 more. Is there someone at each base that can help distribute these?
Jeffrey Peterson (MEC President/Negotiating Committee Chairperson) says
Sarah,
Although we really appreciate your creativity and enthusiasm, altered pins or tie tacks or DIY bag tags and lanyards may
be considered a violation of the uniform policy, which management is likely to treat as a performance issue.
Besides the fact that we don’t want anyone to get into trouble, AFA would like Flight Attendants to stick to the authorized “solidarity swag” because the rollout of these tokens and the associated actions is designed to build and sustain pressure on management, and to demonstrate our solidarity. Individual, ad hoc actions distract from the unified message we must all be sending management.
The Negotiating Committee would love to know more about your mobilization ideas. Please email us at negotiations@afaalaska.org with your creative thoughts on messaging and campaign actions!
