Over the last few weeks, our AFA Alaska Master Executive Council (MEC) has received valuable feedback from Members sharing their concerns about the failed Tentative Agreement (TA). A common question was whether any or all members of our current Negotiating Committee would be replaced.
The MEC carefully considered our next steps and discussed our challenges with TA1 and goals for TA2 with the Negotiating Committee. While we trust the Committee’s dedication, we believe that adding a new member will bring fresh ideas to the table as we get ready to negotiate TA2. As a result, the MEC requested and received approval from AFA International President Sara Nelson to appoint an extra member to the Negotiating Committee, even though it exceeds the maximum allowed by the AFA Constitution & Bylaws.
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Brice McGee, Council 15 (SAN) LEC President, to the Negotiating Committee. As a well-respected LEC President and member of the MEC, Brice will bring a unique perspective to negotiations. He has previously attended AFA negotiations training, is familiar with our contract and objectives, and is up to date on negotiations. He is prepared to step into this role and contribute to the Negotiating Committee immediately.
