We have every right to wear our uniforms while picketing, and everyone should do so when attending one of our Red Hot Summer picketing events! We have power, and we’re asserting our rights. From United to Spirit to Piedmont, Flight Attendants picket in uniform. Same for the pilots across the industry. This is an official Union event.
Picketing is protecting Union activity and there is an established industry precedent of doing so in uniform (including participating in pickets with our pilots, which management was aware of). Some airlines have contractual language that does not allow them to picket in uniform, but our contract doesn’t have any such limitations. Additionally, there are no restrictions in the FAM or Uniform Policy Guide pertaining to picketing in uniform.
What Should I Wear?
Alaska Airlines Flight Attendants are fully permitted to and should wear a full, compliant uniform (including red AFA pin). Company ID badges should be removed or hidden from view.
Other airline Flight Attendants, pilots, and other airline workers are asked to wear a full, compliant uniform to the event as long as a contract provision or uniform policy does not prohibit it. Company ID badges should be removed or hidden from view.
Labor allies, friends, and family members can show support by wearing a red Union t-shirt or plain red t-shirt. Note: red t-shirts will not be provided, but AFA t-shirts are available for order through the AFA Union Store.
This information is also posted on the Picketing Event FAQs page of the Contract 2022 website.
